The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) Postgraduate Classical Vocal students present the mesmerising Back to the Thirties at The Roundhouse Theatre from 16 November to 22 November 2012.

Back to Thirties will transport audiences through time in a thrilling aural celebration of the period. From the iconic photographs, letters and speeches of the Depression era, to the heartfelt and hopeful music of the time, with familiar music from George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart.

The music is in many ways a fascinating reflection of how Americans imagined themselves during this tumultuous time of financial hardships, emerging technologies and the growing populations of cities.

“The music, the stories and the personalities of the time are so rich and colourful. Many of the songs have become recognisable standards over the years, but there are certainly a few surprises.” said Adam Mitchell, Director.

Tickets are on sale now from the WAAPA Box Office on (08) 9370 6636 or online at www.waapa.ecu.edu.au.

BACK TO THE THIRTIES plays Friday 16 November 2012 - Thursday 22 November 2012 (excluding Sunday 18) at 7.30pm at The Roundhouse Theatre, Mount Lawley Campus, 2 Bradford Street, Mount Lawley WA 6050.
