THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST Plays State Theatre Centre 9-28 March

The Importance of Being Earnest has delighted millions since its first London performance in 1895. A masterful comedy of manners, widely acknowledged as the wittiest play in the English language, it sparkles with classic bon mots, comic invention and brilliant dialogue that will lift your spirits. With mistaken identities, young love, giddy confusion and lots of laughs. It's the classic comedy that is anything but earnest!

Director Kate Cherry says: "This is Oscar Wilde's Victorian rom-com, in which four beautiful young people meet their true loves. Wilde has fashioned us a delightful soufflé of a play, sparkling with elegance, wit and fabulous frocks. I know people will have a great time - they'll see a very theatrical piece that is visually sumptuous and fun to look at. And, of course, they will laugh a lot at Oscar Wilde's world-famous witticisms."

The cast of eight is made up entirely of Western Australian actors and features many well known faces such as Jenny Davis, a stalwart of the Perth Theatre scene, as Lady Bracknell, comedian Pete Rowsthorn (Kath & Kim) with Adriane Daff, Rebecca Davis, Stuart Halusz, Michael Loney, Scott Sheridan and Pauline Whyman.

The production will play the Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre from 9-28 March 2013.
