BroadwayWorld is excited to expand its popular feature series outside the U.S. borders setting our sights on showcasing performance companies around the world! Each month we will introduce you to an intearnational theater, dance and opera company located in one of our coverage countries.

Today, we're thrilled to present you to the Outcast Opera Company in Brisbane, Australia!

The Outcast Opera Company is a performing arts collective for local Brisbane artists across multiple disciplines. Created specifically for young and emerging performers Outcast aims to create exciting new works that are not limited by traditional forms or instrumentation but still retain the integrity and beauty of classical voice.

The Outcast team understands the need to be creative with classical music and have developed the concept of 'duality' on stage. Vocal artists are paired with physical performers creating high energy visual shows that are as much a feast for the eyes as the ears. From ballet to pole dance, forget your 'opera glasses', you won't need them to enjoy the action on stage.

All our singers are classically trained as are many of our dancers however you won't find any  old recycled operatic repetoire at an Outcast show. Sure we like Mozart and Verdi but we have confidence in the talent of our up and coming local composers and believe in creating 100% original works that are revelant to todays society. The trained voice is an extrememly adaptable instrument and our composers are charged with reinventing opera using modern instrumentation for a society bought up on rock, not Rossini.

Outcast is about creating music for all audiences. You don't need to like classical music, you won't need to read any subtitles, you don't have to know anything about opera at all! You just have to love a great show and be able to appreciate the incredible talent of our young local artists.

In June 2013, Outcast will present METAMORPHOSIS. This hybrid acousto-electric opera travels through the grimey city layers into the secret world of insects. Designed as an adaptable festival piece, this energetic work will be a fusion of colour, movement and voice.
